The Scotsman Who Swept Me Away by Hannah Howell

The Scotsman Who Swept Me Away by Hannah Howell

Really wanting to dive into a Hannah Howell story since she’s probably the only popular historical romance author I haven’t tired, I felt like The Scotsman Who Swept Me Away would be a great introduction to her writing and how she structures her characters. Now that I’ve finished all that I want to read of this story I have to say that I’m disappointed by what I was given. From the very beginning we’re introduced to Geordie and his incessant desire to see the ocean – great desire – but the constant mention of him of wanting to see the sea was borderline fanatical. His character came off as if Howell hastily put his character together and constructed a loosely structured story around him. There wasn’t anything of sustenance I could grab onto when it came to his character or the plot. I did love the family dynamic that was […]

Before I delve into my review of How To Love A Duke In Ten Days by Kerrigan Byrne I want to let readers know about the trigger warning within its story. (There is a rape scene within this story so beware). Maybe you’ve already read the book and know this but if you’re reading this review I wouldn’t feel right unless I disclosed this information to you since I was having trouble getting through this particular portion of the story. Now that I’ve disclosed that information to you all I now feel that I can jump into the review … From the start of this story to its last page I found myself really enjoying the story of How To Love A Duke In Ten Days. There were moments where I felt there was too much dialogue and not enough action, especially past the halfway mark, but as always with […]

Funimation vs Crunchyroll | Anime Viewing Wars

Funimation vs Crunchyroll | Anime Viewing Wars

This post may seem like a weird topic to feature here on my blog but since I talk about everything else I love and enjoy why not talk about my obsession with all things anime. But despite the purpose behind this post let’s talk about what inspired my thoughts about both Funimation vs Crunchyroll as anime viewing streams. I’m sure my take on Funimation vs Crunchyroll seems blown out of proportion but this was the dilemma I faced. When Hulu starting announcing the new seasons of anime that would not be on the platform any longer I began looking for other legitimate avenues to watch my favorites. Having had previous experience with Crunchyroll as an alternative to Hulu when Hulu was free back in the good ole days, I was against turning to their services because of the limited shows and episodes available for free. See the amount of episodes, […]

Sunday Post // Week Three: It’s Not Good To Lie…

Our Sunday Post, Week Three, feature is all about sharing the fact that it’s not good to lie. At the time of our Week Two Sunday Post we felt that we had a handle on things but since then things have gone topsy turvy and I’m not sure if things will ever get back on track anytime soon. If I were to summarize the last few weeks I would simply say that the phrase ‘almost insurmountable’ would accurately fit. Sooo many things happen that I feel I won’t be able to adequately express them until I’ve visited with my case manager and/or therapist for a few meetings. Heck it’s surprising that I’ve been able to write, draw, and interact on social media during this time, but maybe that’s just me distracting myself from what’s going so thanks distractions for keeping sane lol. This weekly post doesn’t really have a purpose […]

FCF 9 // Smoke Bitten by Patricia Briggs

Posted August 23, 2019 by Leona Woolfolk in Books, Favorite Cover Friday / 2 Comments

So sorry for the lapse in posts for the Favorite Cover Friday weekly feature. I have covers scheduled, like Smoke Bitten by Patricia Briggs, but I just haven’t written, edited, or scheduled the posts. I can’t promise that I’ll do better in the future since I don’t know what the future will hold but I’ll try my best to stay consistent. But let’s talk about this cover for a second… Smoke Bitten by Patricia Briggs Cover Breakdown I about squealed when Patricia Briggs’ Facebook page revealed the cover for the next story in her Mercy Thompson series. (I will admit to some frustration that we haven’t gotten a new Alpha & Omega installation, but I guess anything from Briggs makes for great news). I’ve always been a fan of Dan Dos Santos’ artwork, whether for Briggs’ stories or other authors, so I knew that whatever he would come up with […]
