A rebel Psy scientist finds herself at the mercy of a changeling who has sworn vengeance against her kind in this thrilling romance in Nalini Singh’s New York Times bestselling series.

Separated from her son and forced to create a neural implant that will mean the effective enslavement of her psychically gifted race, Ashaya Aleine is the perfect Psy—cool, calm, emotionless...at least on the surface. Inside, she’s fighting a desperate battle to save her son and escape the vicious cold of the PsyNet. Yet when escape comes, it leads not to safety, but to the lethal danger of a sniper’s embrace.

DarkRiver sniper Dorian Christensen lost his sister to a Psy killer. Though he lacks the changeling ability to shift into animal form, his leopard lives within. And that leopard’s rage at the brutal loss is a clawing darkness that hungers for vengeance. Falling for a Psy has never been on Dorian’s agenda. But charged with protecting Ashaya and her son, he discovers that passion has a way of changing the rules...

I must have seriously overlooked Hostage to Pleasure by Nalini Singh when I read it the first time because in reading it this time I am in love with its story. My symptoms consist of the heart eyes, heart palpitations, and sweaty palms. Hostage to Pleasure was seriously something special to behold.

Dorian’s story has been, in my opinion, one of the storylines that the Psy-Changeling series has been building up to – the other being Hawke and Sienna’s story. So just imagine with all of the build up of 4 books with the novellas in-between how excited I was to get back into this series and read Dorian’s story with fresh eyes and fresh expectations. Now that I’m thinking about it, I’ve been looking forward to Ashaya’s story as well with just as much anticipation.

From the very start – I’m not just talking about the beginning of Hostage to Pleasure but the beginning of this series for Dorian, and from the interwoven parts within Mine to Possess for Ashaya – there has been so much mysteries surrounding both Dorian and Ashaya. I’m not so much talking about the secrets of their individual characters but the real them that they keep hidden from all and especially those they held dear. Outside of that Dorian and Ashaya continued on the theme of being the others half. Even though I adored the coming together of the couples before them something about Dorian + Ashaya equaled perfection to me and I can’t seem to talk myself out of that reality.

Not only was the romance between Dorian and Ashaya the best I’ve read in this series, the just as dominant subplot, speaking of the conflicts within the Psy council, was so well matched to their intensity that I found myself a willing victim of kidnapping of the mind. This particular conflict ramped up Hostage to Pleasure by Nalini Singh into the stratosphere, and I ended up loving this conflict as much as the story between Dorian and Ashaya.

About Nalini Singh

On Me

I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. I spent three years living and working in Japan, where I took the chance to travel around Asia. I’m back in New Zealand now, but I’m always plotting new trips. If you’d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page.

I’ve worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher, but not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency, but I call it grist for the writer’s mill.

On writing

I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember. All of my stories held a thread of romance, even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes. Creating unique characters and giving them happy endings is my favorite thing. I even love the voices in my head, so there’s no other job I’d rather be doing. When I got the call in September 2002 that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.
