Oh my goodness! The Blacksmith Queen by G.A. Aiken was unlike anything I thought I would be reading after receiving news of it’s release and receiving it as an ARC. I’ll admit to thinking I would receive a story similar to her Dragon Kin series but I am so glad that this story and its series stands on it own and gives a whole new experience to the historical paranormal romance sub-genre. I won’t say that you need to scrap everything the synopsis told you because I truly believe the synopsis was cleverly written – it did it’s job of intriguing readers and it left room for the story itself to keep the readers intrigued enough to keep them reading. Additionally, I won’t say that the start to The Blacksmith Queen was slow even though at the time of reading it I felt that it was – I hope that […]

FCF 5 // The Blacksmith Queen by G.A. Aiken

Do y’all see The Blacksmith Queen by G.A. Aiken’s flipping cover?! Knowing her writing and how she likes to write her female characters I have a feeling that this first installment in The Scarred Earth Saga is going to really make her name known as one of the best fantasy/paranormal romance authors of our time. The Blacksmith Queen by G.A. Aiken Cover Breakdown 1. Crown While I love a story that has a monarch I usually shy away from stories that feature crown or any type of monarch representation on their covers. But, there’s just something about the elegance yet savage looking crown that is featured for G.A. Aiken’s The Blacksmith Queen that I’m finding it hard not to pass it up. Plus, the author also write my all-time favorite paranormal romance series under her main author name, Shelly Laurenston. 2. Title Just like I’ve always loved monarch stories, I’ve […]

I never thought that Dragon on Top by G.A. Aiken would’ve been the story I favored most out of the novellas within this series. This story focused on the dragons Ghelenna (sister of Berclack – father of Fearghus, Gwenvael, Briec, and Eibhear) and Bram. These two characters placed in the same book together was perfection! I had previously read Rhiannon and Berclack’s story at the end of Dragon Actually (purchase). It was great to read about the parents of Fearghus, Gwenvael, Briec, and Ebihear in Dragon on Top. The whole generational clan of Aileen the Wicked was awesome to learn about. They’re all warriors and the privilege to read about them in each installment is always a treat. Dragon on Top by G.A. Aiken presented both a hilarious and engaging romantic story that held my attention. Furthermore, this novella, continued building the foundation for the future full length books. Ghleanna may appear dominant […]

A Tale of Two Dragons by G.A. Aiken

A Tale of Two Dragons by G.A. Aiken started off somewhat rocky for me. There were some highs and some lows for the characters within this story and I started dreading the rest of the story. As for the main characters, Addolgar and Briath, they were enjoyable enough characters apart. Together, their irritating dialogue and actions interrupted the flow of the story. Briath became fixated on remaining an honorable dragon, which normally wasn’t a bad thing. Her focus on this character trait and her method in achieving this status left her looking absolutely dumb. Her character irritated me with her idiotic actions. It was in the revelation of the true character of her dad I began to look more favorably upon her. On the flip side, Addolgar was a cheerful fellow. Except for his interactions with Briath and his family, his character was sort of boring. Truthfully, his character wasn’t […]
