It has been a long time since I’ve read and enjoyed a historical romance as I have The Heir by Johanna Lindsey. The heroine and hero were so charming and different that I fell in love with their characters more than their story. Some of the discrepancies I found within The Heir came from the title of the series and an editing errors found later in the story. I wondered, as the dynamics between the characters were somewhat solidified, how the series could be titled ‘Reid Family’ when both the heroine and hero of The Heir weren’t part of the Reid family? Ophelia and her family were the only Reid’s mentioned. I don’t know why it was so hard for me to dive into the re-read of Fires of Winter by Johanna Lindsey. I loved it, the whole series actually, when I first read it, but I’ve found that historical fiction has slowly but surely dwindled down on my genre preference list. Once again, I am blown away with the character dynamics and ups and downs of Garrick and Brenna. As I was first getting back into Fires of Winter I couldn’t remember what it was about the story that stuck with me so long after I first closed its pages. I wasn’t left wondering for long though because the opening chapter was a definite attention grabber.
