The road to hell is paved with good intentions…
Apple “Core” Drew needs The Uncertain Saints MC like he needs air. He is barely making it through the day, and each one that goes by takes him closer and closer to hell. Literally, not figuratively.
He’s a half breath away from killing himself—maybe not by taking his own life, but he’s not against making someone else do it for him.
Then he meets her. One of his club member’s sister, and his whole outlook on life changes.
And not for the better.
Just as surely as he ruined his life, he ruins her life, too. One lapse in judgement on his part, and his one night of happiness turns into the worst nine months of his life.
Which he would’ve thought was damn near impossible with the things he’s done and seen.
She never saw it coming…
It was the beard. The beard made her do it.
That is a good excuse for having sex with a man she barely knows, isn’t it?
Yeah, who was she kidding? It wasn’t the beard. It was the way he looked so dejected and solemn. The sad look in his eyes pulls her in, and the way his rough hands touch her makes her stay.
All she wants to do is take that look out of his eyes, but the consequences to her actions only make things worse, not better.
One day is all she gets, and he’s not willing to give her more.
Until she dies, that is. Then it’s too late.
Another story hits my hands and I’m left wondering what went wrong. Bad Apple by Lani Lynn Vale had all the elements I love in a Romantic Suspense, heck it was even a Lani Lynn Vale story, but the wires got crossed somewhere around the beginning of the story that just built a 12-inch titanium wall between it and me.
From the other books in the Uncertain Saints MC series I never really paid attention to Apple’s character, but the one thought I did have was, “Given time he would be a character that might steal a piece of my readers heart.” Sadly, I felt that time wasn’t given because while his story was mature and ready to be the next story in the Uncertain Saints series, I don’t feel that him as a character was ready (I hope that made sense). Apple has dealt with a lot of stuff in his past and is currently dealing with the ramifications of it, but I found myself really bored with his entire presence in Bad Apple. The same went for Kitt. Kitty as well was dealt a tough hand at life and she was quite comical at times, but there was still a huge disconnect.
No matter how I tried to reason things out in my hand I couldn’t like this story. It’s never taken me 3 days to read a Lani Lynn Vale story, but I kept having to put Bad Apple by Lani Lynn Vale down because I just couldn’t get into the story, the mystery was even predictable.
I am curious as to how Dirty Mother, book 5 in the Uncertain Saints MC series, will pan out because I actually like Ridley’s character.
