Return to New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh’s darkly passionate Guild Hunter world, where human-turned-angel Elena Deveraux, consort to Archangel Raphael, faces a new challenge that threatens the balance of the world.

Wings of silver. Wings of blue. Mortal heart. Broken dreams. Shatter. Shatter. Shatter. A sundering. A grave. I see the end. I see. . . .

The world is in chaos as the power surge of the Cascade rises to a devastating crescendo. In furiously resisting its attempts to turn Elena into a vessel for Raphael’s power, Elena and her archangel are irrevocably changed. . .far beyond the prophecy of a cursed Ancient.

At the same time, violent and eerie events around the world threaten to wipe out entire populations. And in the Archangel Lijuan’s former territory, an unnatural fog weaves through the land, leaving only a bone-chilling silence in its wake. Soon it becomes clear that even the archangels are not immune to this deadly evil. This time, even the combined power of the Cadre may not be enough. . . .

This war could end them all.

Before the cover for Archangel’s War by Nalini Singh was shared with the public I was already in love with this book. If you happen to keep up with Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter series then you already know how anticipated Archangel’s War was.

That cliffhanger at the end of Archangel’s Prophecy should’ve been outlawed…

Archangel’s War by Nalini Singh Cover Breakdown

1. Author

Since I read my first book by Nalini Singh, Angel’s Blood, I have been hooked onto her writing style. Almost eight years later and I’m still as big of a fan, if not bigger, as I was when I first opened the pages to Angel’s Blood.

2. What the Wings Could Mean?

So, at the end of Archangel’s Prophecy we were left with a huge flipping cliff-hanger that caused a lot of anxiety and child-like temper tantrums. With that said, when I saw Archangel’s War’s cover for the first time and looked at the illustration of wings behind the woman’s back I got so giddy.

Could this illustration mean that Elena will have another set of wings that will make her even more unique amongst angel-kind, or will she become a completely new being that somehow emits lightning?

3. Title

Who the heck are we going to war with?! I’m telling y’all that I have a feeling that Archangel’s War will address a lot of the problems that have surfaced in the previous books.

If Lijuan has risen again, and she is our villain for this book I will be slightly disappointed, but only slightly.

4. Series

Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter series is one of my all-time favorite series. There has never been a moment when I’ve thought of passing this series on, not even when she started giving some of the supporting characters their own books.

There’s something so unique and timeless about the Guild Hunter series that I know that each story will always find itself on my shelves, in my hands to read, and on my mind as I’m thinking of a series to binge.

5. Color Scheme

The colors for this cover aren’t complicated or super artistic, but they are attention-grabbing. The gradient within the lightning makes you want to study it, or I should say it makes me want to study it. It’s such a mystery about what this book could be about that I’ve looked at this cover to figure out what Archangel’s War will entail.

Furthermore, the past covers for the Guild Hunter series have had a color scheme that focuses on the character within the book. So, what could these colors mean for Elena and Raphael?!

6. Weapons

Elena’s character is unique amongst the kickass ladies of fiction, so it’s known that she’s a lover of all types of weapons. The reason I zeroed in on the weapons on this cover was because they showed strength and vitality. We left Elena and Raphael in somewhat of a weak position within Archangel’s War so these weapons lets me know that when it comes the these two I have nothing to worry about.

7. Stance

Look at how she’s standing! It looks like she’s getting ready to kick some serious butt! I see you Elena girl!

“Favorite Cover Fridays” is a weekly meme by Crafting By The Pound. It’s all about book covers; how they look and how we feel about them. Being able to admire book covers both far and wide is one of the pleasures of being a book lover, so this post is 100% dedicated to gushing over the chosen cover during your week that has impacted you the most, that has induced you in cover lust.

About Nalini Singh

On Me

I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. I spent three years living and working in Japan, where I took the chance to travel around Asia. I’m back in New Zealand now, but I’m always plotting new trips. If you’d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page.

I’ve worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher, but not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency, but I call it grist for the writer’s mill.

On writing

I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember. All of my stories held a thread of romance, even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes. Creating unique characters and giving them happy endings is my favorite thing. I even love the voices in my head, so there’s no other job I’d rather be doing. When I got the call in September 2002 that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.
